The Lone Rat
‘Keeping desert history alive’
Living History Group

Richard Pinches AKA 'The Lone Rat'
I started reenacting promenading as a Desert Rat paying homage to my father and his fellow
Desert Rats, which fought the Axis forces in North Africa in 1940-1943. However, I now work
with various other living history desert groups and I have extended my interest to
The Long Range Desert Group and other desert special forces.
All group members love chatting about our passion for the WW2 desert conflict and
I especially enjoy talking to schools, groups and societies.
I also run desert battlefield tours with the assistance of North African tour companies,
and I give history tours of my local historic town of Henley-on-Thames, in costume.
My YouTube channel has collections of first-hand stories of various WW2 veterans.
